Ship fire, Campbeltown Road, Tranmere

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) attended an incident at Cammell Laird, Campbeltown Road, Tranmere on the evening of Tuesday 9 December.

Crews were alerted at 20.23 and on scene at 20.29 with a total of six fire engines and specialist equipment vehicles at scene at the height of the incident.

Firefighters set up water supplies and liaised with the onsite supervisor.

This was a confirmed fire aboard a freight ship currently under construction, all personnel were evacuated.

Due to the internal complexity of the structure, two teams of three firefighters in breathing apparatus (BA) with a Marine specialist were committed to obtain the condition of the fire using a marine firefighting hose.

At 21.57 the fire was extinguished, and the incident began scaling down.

MFRS crews continued to liaise with Cammell Laird staff and completed an external handover of the incident, before leaving the scene at 22.37.
