Fire crews and the Marine Fire One rescue boat were called today to assist a person who had been cut off by the tide near to Marine Point, Kings Parade, New Brighton.

Crews were alerted at 10.40am and on scene at 10.47am, with three fire engines, the Search and Rescue Team and the Marine Fire One rescue boat in attendance.

Two people had initially been trapped but one had been able to get to a safe area. Crews arrived and after liaising with HM Coastguard to establish the exact location were able to pinpoint the second person trapped in water up to their waist.

The person and a dog were rapidly rescued by the Marine Fire One rescue boat crew and taken to the Pier Head Marine Rescue Unit where crews at the shoreside assisted the rescue boat crew in transferring the casualty, conscious and breathing, to an awaiting North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) ambulance for treatment for hypothermia.

After being assessed and treated at the scene by NWAS, the casualty and the dog remained at the Marine Rescue Unit awaiting family. Land based crews left the scene at 11.09am.
