Assistant Chief Fire Officer Ged Sheridan

Ged Sheridan is the Assistant Chief Fire Officer of Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.

He joined the Service in 1996 and served as a Station Officer/Watch Manager at a number of fire stations across Merseyside, as well as being instrumental in launching the first Fire Cadet Unit in Croxteth in 2004.

Ged managed the Service’s Training and Development Academy from 2012 until 2018.   During this time, he led on the introduction of the Joint Emergency Services Interoperability Programme (JESIP) within the Service, as well as a number of large-scale exercises.

From 2018 to 2021, Ged led the Operational Planning and Policy department and National Resilience Fire Control.

He has also led on a number of key workstreams with the Merseyside Resilience Forum and currently he is Chair of the NFCC Resilience Direct National Fire Group.

In January 2022, Ged was promoted to Area Manager, where he oversaw a number of departments that provide operational firefighters and senior officers with training, information, procedures and equipment to ensure they can safely and effectively resolve all emergency incidents.

In April 2025, Ged was promoted to Assistant Chief Fire Officer, and has responsibility for Protection, Prevention and Response directorates.

Ged is a keen runner and enjoys both playing and watching football.
