John was offered a place at university to study Mechanical Engineering but opted for the apprenticeship route instead.
The apprenticeship has given me four years paid experience and worldwide recognised qualifications on specialist vehicles and equipment. The qualifications and knowledge I will gather will stay with me for life and allow me to return to university later if I so wished. Should I decide to change my career, it will also give me a good foundation to move to other mechanical-based jobs around the world.
People had the expectation of me going to university and are surprised I haven't. I have no regrets I made the right choice.
