Burst water main, Prescot Road, Fairfield

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) are in attendance at an incident on Prescot Road, Fairfield, on the evening of Wednesday 19 August.

Crews were alerted at 17.32 and arrived on scene at 17.36, with four fire engines attending in response to a burst water main.

Merseyside Police, North West Ambulance Service, and United Utilities are also in attendance.

Incident update - 01.00AM on Thursday 20 August

This is an ongoing incident.

The Fire Service drone was deployed to provide situational awareness from above, while Firefighters donned specialist water rescue kit and a Fire Service rescue boat was on standby as required to support communities at scene.

At 19.39, a full evacuation of Tudor Court took place due to flood water in the basement of the property.

By 20.18, MFRS crews assessed the directional flow of water and liaised with the local authority who provided 16 tonnes of stone to assist with diversions.

Multi agency meetings have taken place throughout the night that included Fire, Police, United Utilities, Liverpool City Council, and City Watch. 

United Utilities teams have been at scene since the burst progressing the repair as quickly as possible and working with relevant authorities to minimise impact on the local community.

At 23.22, the leak had stopped and United Utilities have restored supplies to all residents by using their network to bypass the damaged section. While there may continue to be some variation in pressure levels in coming hours, United Utilities are confident that services should be generally back to normal in the morning. The repair of the burst main will now proceed as quickly and safely as possible.

Road closures remain in place at the following locations:

Rawlins Street; Holland Street; Green Lane; West Derby Road; Whitecroft; Elm Vale; Balmoral Road; Lily Road; Lauren Road; Holly Road.

We advise the public to allow extra time for your journey and plan an alternative route where possible. Please avoid the area.

The United Utilities mobile customer response vehicles will be located in the area from 8.00am this morning, providing a face-to-face point of contact where customers can raise concerns, obtain information and access support. We will also have our dedicated social workers available to liaise with local agencies to support vulnerable customers as required.

MFRS crews made up their equipment and left the scene at 00.31 on the morning of Thursday 20 August, with the incident handed over to United Utilities.
