Location: Toxteth, Liverpool
Fire crews have been called to a care home in Canning St., Toxteth this evening.
Crews were alerted at 6.42PM and on scene at 6.46PM.
5 fire engines are in attendance.
Crews arrived to find a fire in the ground floor recreational room and 2 teams of 2 firefighters wearing breathing apparatus immediately began to fight the fire with 2 hose reel jets.
The building is 3 storeys high and a full evacuation is in progress.
Multiple rescues are taking place and a systematic search is taking place floor by floor for residents unaccounted for.
The incident is ongoing.
UPDATE 7.30PM
The fire on the ground floor has been extinguished and the area is being ventilated.
A floor by floor search is still ongoing for persons unaccounted for.
Road closures are in place and are being managed by Merseyside police- please avoid the area.
UPDATE 8.05PM
Firefighting activity has ceased. A search for occupants has resulted in a number of evacuations and contact with residents who are remaining in rooms in safe conditions owing to immobility.
All residents remaining in the building are in safe conditions with clean air.
A multi agency meeting has taken place at the scene to arrange continued care in safe conditions for residents.
