Area Manager Ged Sheridan - Operational Preparedness

Ged Sheridan is the Area Manager for Prevention at Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.

He joined the Service in 1996 as served as a Station Officer/Watch Manager at a number of fire stations across Merseyside, as well as being instrumental in launching the first Fire Cadet Unit in Croxteth in 2004.

Ged managed the Service's Training & Development Academy from 2012 until 2018. During this time, he led on the introduction of the Joint Emergency Services Interoperability Programme (JESIP) within the Service, as well as a number of large scale exercises.

From 2018 to 2021, Ged led the Operational Planning & Policy Department and National Resilience Fire Control.

He has also led on a number of key work streams with the Merseyside Resilience Forum and currently acts as the National Fire Chiefs Council's (NFCC) MTA Specialist Response Capability Advisor. He is also Vice Chair of the NFCC Resilience Direct National Fire Group.

In January 2022, Ged was promoted to Area Manager. He is now responsible for Operational Preparedness. He oversees a number of departments that provide operational firefighters and senior officers with training, information, procedures and equipment to ensure they can safely and effectively resolve all emergency incidents. Ged's directorate is also responsible for assessing all foreseeable fire and rescue related risks that could affect our communities, whether they are local, cross-border, multi-authority and/or national in nature. This includes everything from fires to terrorist attacks.

Ged also oversees arrangements that are put in place to prevent and mitigate risks identified on the Community Risk Register. This is done through adjusting existing provision, effective collaboration and partnership working, whilst ensuring business continuity arrangements are in place in accordance with the Service's duties under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.

Ged is a keen runner and enjoys both playing and watching football.
